Brandon K. Barnett, DMD, MDS, MPH
Dr. Barnett is a Houston native who traveled to Portland, Maine, to begin his dental training at the University of New England (UNE) College of Dental Medicine. While there, he remained deeply engaged in leadership, organized dentistry, and research. He co-founded UNE’s chapter of the National Dental Association, held multiple roles in the American Student Dental Association, and published research on the activity of natural remedies on the oral microbiome in the Journal of the Academy of General Dentistry. His contributions were recognized with the Dean’s Leadership Award, the Student Organization Community Service Award, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy Certificate of Merit, an honor presented to one dental student for outstanding and dedicated service to the profession.
Dr. Barnett briefly returned to Texas to complete a General Practice Residency at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston, where he also met his wife, before pursuing advanced training in endodontics at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, where he earned a Master of Dental Science.
During residency, Dr. Barnett was an active presenter at endodontic lectures and symposiums in the tri-state area and at the American Association of Endodontists Annual meeting. He received the American Association of Endodontists Oral Research Presentation Award for his presentation on how diabetes mellitus attenuates enamel and dentin formation. This work was also the subject of his master’s thesis, and was published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences where Dr. Barnett and Researchers investigated delayed tooth development and impaired differentiation of dental stem cells in mice with type 2 diabetes.
Committed to public service, Dr. Barnett then went on to complete a Master of Public Health in Health Policy at the Yale School of Public Health. While working in private practice, he concurrently served as a fellow with the Connecticut Oral Health Initiative and worked alongside the Connecticut Foundation for Dental Outreach to provide volunteer care to patients in need. In this role, he delivered written and oral testimony before the Connecticut General Assembly, partnering with legislators and advocates to advance access to care and community water fluoridation.
Dr. Barnett is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and maintains active membership in the Greater Houston Dental Society, the Texas Dental Association, and the American Association of Endodontists. In his free time, he enjoys reading, watching football, finding new places to eat, and is an aviation enthusiast.
